JULIETTA APPLETON is a birth doula and hypnotherapist with more than 30 years of experience and attendance at over 200 births. She is the creator of mind+body birth, a unique, science-based system of birth hypnosis and childbirth education designed to help pregnant women achieve a calm, empowered birth. She has helped hundreds of people overcome their fears and limiting beliefs to create positive change and achieve their goals. She is a founding member of CEA of Westchester/Putnam (now HVBN), and is the founder and former director of the first freestanding birth center in Westchester County, NY--The Birth Cottage. She possesses a Masters degree in Public Administration, has trained doulas, helped establish and operate two postpartum doula services, and has worked with individuals and couples as a sex educator, childbirth educator, birth doula, and postpartum doula.
In addition to working one-on-one with clients to help them overcome fears and create positive habits, Julietta teaches mind+body birth to pregnant women (in group or private classes), and trains professional birth workers (childbirth educators, doulas, midwives, physicians, nurses, hypnotherapists, etc.) who want to learn how to use mind+body birth techniques with their own clients.

Bringing a baby into the world is one of the most profound experiences you can have. Yet, for many parents, the anticipation of childbirth is accompanied by worry, fear, and uncertainty. Hypnosis for Childbirth helps you cultivate a sense of calm, confidence, and control so you can feel at ease as you welcome your baby.
Giving birth is a natural process, but modern medical environments and cultural narratives around pain can create stress and tension. Through a personalized hypnosis experience, you can ease anxiety, alter your perception of pain, and feel safer and more grounded throughout labor and delivery. Even if you plan to use medical pain relief, hypnosis enhances your ability to feel present, safe, and in control.
Giving birth is not just about managing pain—it’s about creating a meaningful and empowering experience. Through hypnosis, I will help you cultivate a deep mind-body connection that allows you to trust your body and approach childbirth with confidence.
I received my doctorate in clinical psychology in 1990. In my general psychotherapy practice I have used Ericksonian hypnosis and guided imagery for a wide range of issues from symptom relief to deep exploration of early family experiences and healing from trauma. I’ve had extensive training in sex therapy and have used these modalities for treatment of sexual dysfunction as well.
My first experience with hypnosis for childbirth was when I had my own children. I’ve worked with both clients and friends in this capacity over the years. I’ve also helped women cope with their experiences of infertility, miscarriage, and concerns about genetic testing results.
I am a student of the mind-body connection and how it can be harnessed to facilitate a grounded and meaningful birth experience. A strong connection is an asset and there are times when altering the mind-body connection, as during labor, can be a helpful approach. The beauty of hypnosis is that there are limitless possibilities that can be used to co-create a highly personalized, targeted experience that uniquely meets your needs.

As a HypnoBirthing Mommy, Alison is thrilled to share the HypnoBirthing approach with other women! She began studying hypnosis while taking classes in neuro-linguistic programming about 10 years ago in New York City. HypnoBirthing helped her achieve the calm, natural, and non-medicinal birth that she wanted. Her regular hypnosis practice has helped her let go of bad habits and challenges, and provided pain relief while fighting shingles twice.
Alison works full-time as a school psychologist with an expertise in behaviorism at a high school for emotionally disabled scholars. Outside of work and preparing mothers for their HypnoBirths, she loves running, the Yankees, gardening, and spending time with her family, especially her 4 year-old daughter!
