Postpartum Support

A postpartum doula is a birthing professional who helps the new family following birth.  She helps new parents by demonstrating practical newborn care and by supporting the feeding methods the mother has chosen to use.  She makes sure the new mother is rested, well-nourished and adequately hydrated, and teaches her tips for future self-care. The postpartum doula also helps the new father gain a higher level of confidence in caring for his newborn, and she can assist new parents with sibling care, when necessary. With the help of a postpartum doula , the transition to parenthood is much easier, and the household of the new family runs smoothly.

I am Elizabeth Costa,  certified postpartum Doula. I specialize in the care and support of new mothers and their families. I became passionate about the postpartum period of new mothers after having four children of my own. I decided to take my passion further and continue in a career path that will allow me the pleasure of providing nurturing, non-judgmental support for the beginning foundation of your family.

I offer lactation consulting, newborn care and guidance as well as family support during this exciting time. I also help with  postpartum depression that although may feel debilitating with a bit of helpful advice and guidance, is manageable.

I work in Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester and Connecticut. For additional information please check my website.

Lisa Gould Rubin, CCE, CD (DONA), Birth and Newborn Parenting Consultant, has been teaching childbirth classes and providing professional labor support (confused back then with working for the unions) for nearly thirty years and for hundreds of women long before it became a recognized profession and took on the title “Doula”.

Lisa’s unique approach helps expectant and newborn parents take a look at who they are and how they live their lives and apply it to the experience of giving birth and parenting their new babies. She helps women and their partners find their way to the birth that’s right for them and their own emerging parenting style so they can end up feeling good about themselves, the process and each other.

Lisa helped establish the doula program at Mount Sinai Hospital, NYC.  She has provided expert advice on childbirth and parenting to publications like The New York Times, Parenting Magazine and the Utne Reader. I am a pediatric sleep coach working with children from infancy and beyond.  My methods are developmentally appropriate and gentle.  With all children, no matter what age, I focus on healthy and constructive sleep routines and behaviors.  My smallest clients learn how to eat well during the day and get longer (age appropriate) stretches at night.  My older clients master nap schedules and painless, calm bedtimes.  Moreover my methods promote healthy eating and safe sleeping.  I have a Masters in Education from Bank Street College of Education and am trained in their developmental interactive approach.  Finally I am a graduate of Kim West's Gentle Sleep Coach program.
